Taylor Root recently hosted an engaging roundtable breakfast – Charting the future of private banking. A small and exclusive event, we held it at the luxurious floating pod in Fullerton Bay Hotel where we welcomed nine top Regional General Counsels from the private banking industry.

The morning commenced with a brief networking session and introductions and it was a great opportunity for our guests to meet and connect with their peers in the industry. We were privileged to have guest speaker, Evan Lam, Partner at Linklaters, along with his Associate, Anil Shergil, lead the session. As our guests tucked into a delicious and healthy breakfast, Evan shared insights on the ever-evolving use of AI and data analytics in the industry. He highlighted the crucial regulations and principles that must be upheld, including senior management accountability and liability to clients.

Anil also shared his knowledge on the regulations surrounding digital assets within the banking sector, comparing Singapore’s regulations with the rest of the jurisdictions in Asia Pacific.

The discussions then shifted to the impact of ESG regulations on private banks and the potential litigation risks for non-compliance. Legal leaders from the industry were urged to work together to meet the challenge of pursuing sustainability goals while avoiding conflicts with competition laws.

The roundtable also benefited from a deep dive into precedents that triggered litigation actions and enforcement trends for 2022 to 2023 in Singapore.

We are delighted to have Evan join us, providing valuable insights and knowledge on key topics for the private banking industry. Equally, it was a pleasure to host our guests who took the time to join us and to share their experiences.

Our market report and salary guide 2023-2024 will be launched soon and available to download – so do keep a lookout for that. For further information on the event or for assistance building out your legal team or making a move yourself, please contact May Lim.
