From crisis management to prevention – The role of Governance, Risk and Compliance professionals

The role of Governance, Risk and Compliance professionals has changed drastically, especially in the Middle East.

GRC used to be about reacting to problems, handling crises, responding to new regulations, and making sure compliance issues were addressed after the fact.

But today, the focus is on prevention!

What I have observed is that as the region’s business landscape becomes more complex and regulatory environments tighten, organisations need GRC professionals who can not only manage risk but anticipate and prevent it.

So, what does this mean for GRC recruitment?

Proactive Risk Management:
It’s no longer enough to address issues after they happen. GRC professionals now need to identify potential risks early on and implement strategies to prevent them from becoming problems in the future.

Technology is Key:
The rise of AI, automation, and advanced risk management tools is changing the game. GRC professionals need to embrace these technologies to predict and address risks before they escalate.

Strategic Leadership:
GRC professionals in the Middle East are increasingly becoming strategic leaders who help guide organisations through risk and compliance challenges. Their role extends beyond just managing risk to shaping the organisations’ overall strategy.

As businesses in the region grow and evolve, so does the role of GRC professionals. Companies need individuals who can think ahead, use data to inform decisions, and build a more resilient, risk-aware culture.

If you’re looking to hire in this space, we are working with some excellent professionals who are ready to help drive your GRC strategy forward.
