What’s going on in the technology sector in Benelux?

What’s going on in the technology sector in Benelux? How can lawyers stand out in the recruitment process?

After an exciting and busy two years which saw an exponential increase in demand for lawyers by overly optimistic tech companies, some larger tech companies are now downsizing their legal teams, resulting in redundancies globally.

Many technology giants, including some of the most prominent in the Netherlands, have been forced to let go of lawyers, especially those in mid-level positions. In particular, redundancies have been in companies that have undergone strategic shifts, mergers, or acquisitions. Senior leadership positions have not been immune to these changes either, with some General Counsel being asked to leave their roles.

How do you stay relevant as a technology lawyer and secure a new role in a market where there are more candidates available than open roles?

One trend we have seen is the rise of legal operations within tech companies. As tech companies become more sophisticated, they have looked to optimise their legal operations in order to better manage risk and increase efficiency. This means legal departments are increasingly looking for candidates with skills in areas such as project management, process improvement, and data analytics. If you’re a technology lawyer looking to make a move, highlighting your experience in these areas could give you a competitive edge in the hiring process.

Finally, it’s worth noting that while the current climate may be challenging, it’s also creating new opportunities for technology lawyers. Many companies are looking to pivot their business models or launch new products and services in response to the changing landscape, which means they need legal support to help them navigate new regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements.

If you’re a technology lawyer with experience in a particular industry or legal specialty, keep an eye out for companies that are expanding into that area. By positioning yourself as an expert in a particular field, you could increase your chances of landing a job with a technology company that’s on the cutting edge of innovation.

How data protection leaders can hold the C-suite’s attention

  • Posted september 4, 2026
Contents Share Key insights Executive attention is the scarcest resource a data protection function competes for. Winning the C-suite’s attention is often the easy part: a regulatory deadline or a data breach naturally puts privacy on the board agenda without any effort from the Data Protection Officer (DPO).   Keeping that attention is what allows privacy programmes to grow beyond a team of one.  Across data protection recruitment, the […]

How tech and life sciences companies should hire legal leaders for growth

Contents Share Key insights High-growth companies rarely need the same legal function for long.  A technology startup may initially need support with intellectual property and commercial contracts before enterprise growth, AI adoption or international expansion changes the legal brief. A life sciences company may move from fundraising and IP protection into clinical development, licensing and commercialization.  The challenge is recognising when […]
