Vice President, Assistant General Counsel (Commercial)

New York, NY | Hybrid (3 days in office)

A leading, globally recognized organization operating at the intersection of media and technology is seeking a senior commercial attorney to join its legal team as Vice President, Assistant General Counsel.

This is a highly visible leadership role, serving as the deputy to a senior legal executive and acting as a key advisor across a wide range of commercial and strategic matters. The position offers a sophisticated remit, combining complex transactional work, team leadership, and cross functional collaboration.

The Role

This individual will play a central role in leading high value commercial and technology transactions, while overseeing a team supporting the organization’s core business operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading complex commercial and technology transactions, including strategic partnerships, licensing, advertising, and vendor agreements
  • Advising senior stakeholders across product, technology, and business teams
  • Managing and developing a team supporting commercial legal matters across multiple functions
  • Serving as a trusted advisor and deputy to a senior legal leader
  • Supporting strategic initiatives and advising on emerging legal, regulatory, and technology related risks

Candidate Profile

  • 15+ years of legal experience
  • Strong background in commercial and technology transactions, ideally with top law firm training
  • Significant in house experience with increasing responsibility
  • Proven ability to manage and develop legal teams
  • Experience handling complex, high stakes transactions and advising senior stakeholders
  • Exposure to media, technology, or digital platforms is a plus

Additional Details

  • Compensation: $260K to $300K base, plus bonus and long term incentives
  • Hybrid working model, 3 days per week in New York office
