Legal Counsel, Family Office

We have partnered with an international family office on the appointment of a Legal Counsel to join its Dubai operation, supporting a substantial portfolio of international companies, investments, real estate and other assets.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious lawyer to take on a highly varied role, initially providing broad legal support across the family office before developing into a more commercial and operational position. The role will be based in Dubai and will work closely with the principals of the family office.

• International exposure – support approximately 30 companies worldwide alongside commercial real estate and investments across multiple jurisdictions.
• Real ownership – take the lead on transactions and legal matters, managing international law firms and external advisers where appropriate.
• Close to the decision-making – act as a trusted adviser and the “eyes and ears” of the organisation, identifying legal and commercial risks and helping the family office navigate them.
• A role that will evolve – initially focus on legal matters before becoming increasingly involved in operations, hiring and the continued build-out of the Dubai office.

What you’ll be doing

• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of corporate and commercial agreements, including shareholders’ agreements, investment documentation and other commercial contracts.
• Advising on corporate governance and company secretarial matters across an international portfolio.
• Taking the lead on transactions and investments, coordinating external law firms and professional advisers across multiple jurisdictions.
• Supporting matters relating to the family office’s international assets, including commercial real estate, liquid investments, corporate structures, trusts and wider investment activity.
• Advising on employment, legal and commercial risk while increasingly supporting the operational development, hiring and build-out of the Dubai office.

Who we’re looking for

• A 6-10 PQE qualified lawyer, ideally admitted in England & Wales or another recognised common law jurisdiction.
• Strong corporate and commercial experience gained with a well-regarded international law firm and/or sophisticated in-house environment.
• Experience across corporate transactions, shareholders’ agreements, governance and commercial contracts, with the ability to take the lead on matters and manage external counsel.
• Exposure to investments, international corporate structures, commercial real estate, trusts or private wealth would be advantageous.
• A pragmatic and commercially minded lawyer who is comfortable operating autonomously and is attracted by the opportunity to develop into a broader commercial and operational role.

This should particularly appeal to a lawyer who wants to remain close to sophisticated legal work while moving beyond a traditional Legal Counsel position and developing a much broader commercial and operational remit.
