What did your early career look like?

Law has always been a passion of mine! While completing my undergraduate degree in political science, my plan was to attend law school. During my studies, I worked for various senators and political figures, but I always knew that I didn’t want a career in politics. While law school may still be a possibility for me in the future, I couldn’t be happier with where I ended up!

And where did you end up?

In recruitment! I started in recruitment in 2016 and my entry into the field was quite unique. I was interviewing for an admin healthcare role when the hiring manager joined our interview to inform me that their recruiter had just resigned on the spot! They then turned to me and asked if I wanted the recruiter job because they felt my experience and skills would be better suited to HR and recruitment. I took the leap and accepted the recruitment role without really knowing what recruitment was!

I spent two years in healthcare recruitment and in 2018 moved into engineering recruitment in the built environment space. I found this sector was better suited to me and far more interesting day to day. When I was contacted by Taylor Root, it felt like a full-circle moment; it was the opportunity I was looking for to get back into the legal space.

What is your role at Taylor Root?

I joined Taylor Root as a researcher, which was a nice reset for me, allowing me to be mentored in best recruitment practices and re-learn the legal field. I’ve now transitioned back into the recruiter seat and I’m responsible for business developing my own clients and bringing new work in. I really enjoy the 360 nature of my role which allows me to speak to clients and candidates and really bring the two together. Because of my background in a variety of sectors, I’m able to collaborate with clients’ different industries, and this gives me added value which is very rewarding.

From the jump, I could tell that Taylor Root is more professional in their approach and hire people who are like myself, providing clear steppingstones for career growth. Being surrounded by senior recruiters made it easier for me to get my feet wet and understand the legal industry.

What’s it like working in the New York office of Taylor Root and The SR Group?

The lifestyle balance and healthy work culture really stand out, along with the most understanding and supportive leadership team. John Spinosa and Barrie Sanderson have a human touch; they are in tune with their teams and see more than just numbers. They focus on developing key skills, such as consistency and tenacity, which you need to succeed in the long run.
