Senior Risk Lawyer

A leading international law firm is seeking a Senior Risk Lawyer to join its established Risk & Compliance team. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced legal risk professional to take on a broad advisory role with exposure to complex regulatory, compliance, and professional conduct matters across a global business.

The Opportunity

Reporting into senior Risk & Compliance leadership, you will play a key role in advising the firm on a wide range of legal risk and regulatory issues. Working closely with lawyers, business services teams, and senior stakeholders, you will help ensure the firm maintains the highest standards of professional and regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions.

This role offers significant variety, combining advisory work, policy development, regulatory monitoring, stakeholder engagement, and strategic risk management. It is ideally suited to a qualified lawyer with law firm risk experience who enjoys providing pragmatic, commercially focused advice in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on a broad range of risk and compliance matters, including:
    • Professional conduct and ethics
    • Regulatory compliance
    • Conflicts of interest
    • Anti-money laundering and sanctions
    • Data protection and privacy
    • Client and third-party contractual terms
    • Emerging legal and regulatory risks, including AI governance
  • Partner with legal and business services teams to provide practical and commercially focused risk advice.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and assess their impact on the business.
  • Draft, review, and update policies, procedures, and guidance to reflect regulatory and legislative changes.
  • Support the implementation of risk management initiatives across the organisation.
  • Maintain compliance registers and monitoring frameworks.
  • Work closely with senior compliance stakeholders on strategic risk matters.
  • Deliver training and awareness sessions to colleagues across the business.
  • Support audits, reviews, investigations, and other risk-related projects as required.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the firm’s risk and compliance framework.

About You

We are keen to speak with candidates who have:

  • Qualified Lawyer status (England & Wales preferred).
  • Approximately 6-10 years‘ PQE.
  • Previous experience within the Risk & Compliance function of an international law firm.
  • Strong knowledge of professional conduct requirements, legal ethics, and regulatory obligations within the legal sector.
  • Experience advising on AML, sanctions, conflicts, confidentiality, privilege, and data protection matters.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to provide pragmatic, solutions-focused advice while balancing commercial and regulatory considerations.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • High levels of discretion, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Experience delivering training and working with senior stakeholders.
  • Experience handling complaints and professional indemnity matters would be advantageous.
