Senior Associate – Indirect Tax
We are partnering with a leading Australian law firm to recruit a Senior Associate or Special Counsel to join their high-performing Private Advisory team in Melbourne. This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior advisory role within a dynamic and growing practice, advising on complex and high-value indirect tax matters for a diverse and prestigious client base.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic legal advice on indirect tax matters, including stamp duty, land tax, and payroll tax
- Prepare and review private ruling applications, objections, and appeals
- Advise on tax structuring for property development and not-for-profit organisations
- Conduct legal research and analysis to support clients navigating complex tax legislation
- Draft and review legal documents, including contracts and tax filings
- Stay abreast of legislative changes and proactively advise clients
- Build and maintain strong client relationships across a range of sectors
The Ideal Candidate:
- 6+ years’ post-qualification experience in indirect tax law
- Experience gained in a reputable law firm or the legal division of a major accounting firm
- Strong technical knowledge of tax legislation and regulatory frameworks
- Excellent analytical, drafting, and communication skills
- A strategic thinker with a commercial mindset
- Proven ability to manage complex matters and mentor junior lawyers
- A collaborative and client-focused approach
