Legal Counsel – Public Sector (Permanent)

Location: Birmingham, UK (Hybrid: 2-3 days/week in office)

Contract Type: 12 Months FTC

Experience Level: 3-5 years PQE


The Opportunity

A leading UK-based SaaS provider is seeking a commercially minded Legal Counsel to support its public sector business unit. This is a newly created, permanent role within a growing legal team, offering the chance to work on high-impact projects across public procurement, commercial contracting, and strategic legal initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts including MSAs, customer agreements, RFP responses, supplier and partner agreements, licensing terms, and data processing agreements
  • Provide legal support for public sector bids and ensure compliance with UK frameworks
  • Collaborate with Sales and Go-to-Market teams to support deal execution
  • Advise on data protection and privacy matters, escalating where necessary
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives including AI integration, legal innovation, and process improvement

About You

  • Qualified solicitor (or equivalent) with 3-5 years PQE, ideally with in-house or public sector experience
  • Strong background in commercial contracting and public procurement
  • Solid understanding of UK GDPR and data protection obligations
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented, and eager to contribute to a high-performing legal team
  • Interest in legal technology and innovation is a plus
