The role: A senior counsel/ Regional counsel level position. The role is titled Head of Legal (UK&I) and the position has sole responsibility for looking after all legal matter across the UK & Ireland.

  • 70% – Commercial legal matters (contracts surrounding events, MSA’s, NDA’s, procurement, Host broadcasting matters, liaising and negotiating contracts with clients who utilise their services and equiptment to put on large events in the media industry or require support with filming, streaming)
  • 20% – Other legal matters: property, employment, company secretarial (hosting board meetings, drafting board minutes). Can outsource property and employment to panel law firms as well as other specialist work. A very small amount of ad-hoc corporate work – potentially assisting the other Head of Legal on M&A matters or corporate advisory work.
  • 5-10% – IP: Filing patents and trademarks portfolio

The reporting lines: Reporting line into another global Head of Legal who looks after other jurisdictions. This Head of Legal then reports into a General Counsel in the US.

The reason for the interim requirement: Maternity Leave

The duration: Initial duration of 8 months required

The start date: 3rd June ideally (potential to start 1-2 weeks earlier)

The working arrangements:

  • 1 day a week in London (Thursday = team day)
  • Preference of 1 day a week or once every few weeks to travel to Bracknell or Milton Kynes to build relationships with CEO/CFO of their business units.

The ideal candidate:

  • Someone who has worked in events/ Hospitality/ Retail or business supplying services and goods at senior legal counsel and or above.
  • Perhaps someone with some media experience. Please note, whilst the business serves many large and well known media businesses gloabally, they do not require someone with strong media background but having insight into how the industry works would be beneficial.
  • Someone who has sat at Head of Legal position previously or who has been in a senior legal counsel position for many years looking for step up or to drive and support a particular regions legal matters.
  • Ideally someone with at least 6/7 years PQE and able to work confidently and autonomously with a range of general commercial legal matters and used to broad in-house legal roles.
  • Someone who is used to dealing with bright and senior internal colleagues (CEO/CFO & MD’s) who could challenge you and ask intelligent questions regarding legal matters and able to handle things with confidence, manage expectations and have excellent commercial acumen.
  • Someone who is articulate, bright and engaging and able ot build strong business relationships and drive matters forward.
