A number of our clients have got in touch with the Taylor Root team in the last week looking to make legal hires, which we are always delighted to assist with!

At this time of year, with many competing priorities, it’s important to not forget about the candidate experience and what tweaks you may need to make to your process at this time of year. If you can’t run a fast or smooth interview process due to holidays or busy schedules, it may be better to wait until the new year.

However, it can be done. Here are my top three tips for ensuring a positive candidate journey and successful hire:

Communication

Keep candidates informed. Whether it’s acknowledging their application, being clear on the interview process timings, explaining delays or sharing feedback post-interview. Open communication builds trust and showcases your commitment to a positive experience.

Streamline

Make the application process easy and accessible. Time is of the essence so streamline your interview processes to respect both the candidate’s and your team’s time. Define the key interviewers that need to be involved, have clear objectives for each interview round and leverage video calls to help with busy diaries and travel challenges.

Onboarding

Between an offer being made and potential start date is a key time period to keep your new joiner engaged. Share positive feedback, your excitement and drop them a message outside of your recruiter communication. Onboarding is the first impression; it’s your chance to welcome them and make sure they feel comfortable, confident, and excited to join your team.

Candidate experience is a reflection of your company’s values and culture. A great candidate experience will help secure your preferred candidate and those that are unsuccessful will still leave with a positive impression of your company. The little things can make a big difference.

Why not relax into the Christmas break knowing your new joiner feels engaged and excited to get started! If you would like to discuss the contents of this article in further detail, reach out to Georgia Morgan-Wynne or a member of the Taylor Root team.
