About the Role

They are now looking for a commercially minded Legal Counsel to join their London-based legal team on a temporary basis to cover up-coming maternity leave. This is a 9 month Fixed Term Contract initially but there may be an opportunity for extensions.

This role offers the chance to act as a trusted business partner within a fast-paced, international environment, supporting a diverse portfolio of large-scale events, training programmes, subscriptions and media products across sectors including technology, finance, life sciences, food, healthcare and consumer events.

You’ll report into The senior corporate counsel and join a team of 4 lawyers (2 in the UK and 2 in the US) and work collaborative with a range of stakeholders at all levels and a variety of business units. You’ll also connect with group lawyers outside your team and work together to offer efficient and commercial solutions for a range of global commercial, legal and risk matters.

Responsibilities

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements, including customer terms, supplier and vendor contracts, IT contracts, speaker agreements, sponsorship and collaboration agreements, barters and NDAs
  • Maintaining and updating contract templates to reflect evolving legal, regulatory and risk requirements
  • Advising on ad hoc legal matters, including contract disputes, payment issues, attendee conduct and event-related waivers
  • Providing guidance on intellectual property matters, including brand and trademark protection and dispute support
  • Building strong working relationships with stakeholders across commercial, operations, tech and finance teams
  • Managing external counsel where required and contributing to wider legal team initiatives

Qualifications

A qualified lawyer with c.2/3+ years’ PQE (guideline only)

Required Skills

  • Strong in-house experience, gained either permanently or via secondment
  • Solid grounding in commercial law and contract negotiation within a dynamic business environment
  • Experience managing legal risk and resolving disputes pragmatically
  • Knowledge of data privacy and emerging technologies (including AI) is beneficial but not essential
  • Confident communicator, able to translate legal advice into clear, commercial guidance
  • Proactive, adaptable and comfortable juggling multiple priorities in a fast-moving setting
  • A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for contributing to a positive, high-performing team culture

Pay range and compensation package

End of May/June 2026 – 1 month notice periods will be acceptable if you are interested in this role!

Office working:

3 days a week in central London office
