Head of Banking Supervision

A leading international financial services regulator is seeking an experienced banking regulatory leader to head its Banking Supervision function. This is a high-profile executive appointment offering the opportunity to shape supervisory strategy, influence regulatory policy and oversee the prudential supervision of a significant banking sector operating within a globally recognised international financial centre.

As a member of the senior leadership team, you will be responsible for leading the Banking Supervision Division, ensuring a robust risk-based supervisory framework across licensed banking institutions and supporting the continued stability and integrity of the financial system. You will play a critical role in driving regulatory excellence, overseeing supervisory activities, engaging with industry stakeholders and representing the organisation on regional and international regulatory forums.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic direction, performance and development of the Banking Supervision Division.
  • Oversee risk-based supervision, monitoring and inspection programmes across banking institutions.
  • Identify emerging prudential, conduct and financial crime risks and recommend appropriate supervisory responses.
  • Provide thought leadership on banking regulation, supervisory frameworks and international best practice.
  • Contribute to the development of regulatory policy, legislation, rules and guidance.
  • Manage complex regulatory issues, enforcement matters and remediation programmes where required.
  • Build strong relationships with financial institutions, international regulators and industry bodies.
  • Lead, develop and mentor a team of experienced supervisory professionals.
  • Represent the organisation at international supervisory forums, conferences and regulatory working groups.

Candidate Profile

We are interested in speaking with senior banking regulatory professionals, prudential supervisors or banking executives with extensive experience operating within highly regulated financial services environments.

You will likely possess:

  • Significant experience within banking regulation, prudential supervision or financial services oversight.
  • A proven track record of leading large teams and managing complex regulatory relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of international supervisory standards, including Basel frameworks and AML/CFT requirements.
  • Experience influencing policy, regulatory change and supervisory strategy.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
  • A degree in Economics, Business, Accounting, Law or a related discipline, with a relevant postgraduate or professional qualification preferred.

Personal Attributes

The successful individual will be a credible and collaborative leader who combines sound judgement with strong regulatory insight. You will be intellectually curious, commercially aware and capable of balancing robust supervision with effective stakeholder engagement. The role requires someone who can influence at the highest levels, inspire teams, challenge constructively and drive continuous improvement within a dynamic international environment.

The Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to take on a visible leadership role within a respected regulatory organisation, influencing the future direction of banking supervision while engaging with regulators, policymakers and industry leaders on a global stage. This role offers significant scope to shape supervisory priorities, drive organisational impact and contribute to the long-term resilience of the financial services sector.
