A rapidly growing music and technology business is seeking a Senior Counsel to support its acquisition of music catalogues and related IP assets. It operates internationally, offers a hybrid work model, and maintains a collaborative, fast‑paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead negotiation and drafting of music catalogue acquisition agreements (master, publishing, royalty).
  • Advise on copyright matters including ownership, splits, sampling, neighbouring rights, and termination.
  • Manage legal due diligence for acquisitions and assess risks around historical agreements and encumbrances.
  • Collaborate closely with sourcing, finance, and commercial teams to structure deals.
  • Oversee external counsel across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Develop scalable templates and legal processes for high‑volume deal flow.
  • Support wider corporate matters, including commercial contracts, data protection, partnerships, and regulatory issues.
  • Stay current on developments in music law, copyright, and emerging industry models.

Requirements

  • JD (or equivalent) and admission in at least one US jurisdiction.
  • 6-10+ years’ experience, ideally a mix of law firm and in‑house entertainment/music.
  • Strong experience negotiating IP‑heavy commercial agreements.
  • Excellent drafting, risk assessment, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
  • Highly organised and comfortable managing multiple transactions.
  • Self‑starter with interest in music, technology, and evolving industry models.

Compensation

$260,000 – $285,000, plus equity and benefits.
