Senior Sustainability Counsel
Our client is a Fortune 500 company within the manufacturing sector. With innovative products, they streamline logistical operations and improve customer experiences. Our client is seeking a skilled, forward-thinking, and highly motivated lawyer to join their legal team as a Senior Sustainability Counsel. Providing proactive legal guidance on European and international environmental laws and sustainability frameworks. This role involves close collaboration with business leaders, cross-functional teams, and the broader legal department, as well as managing external counsel on specific projects and litigation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise on European and international environmental laws and sustainability frameworks, including the EU Green Deal, CSRD, CSDDD, and other ESG-related regulations.
- Implement a global regulatory tracking process for sustainability and monitor the evolving legal landscape.
- Collaborate with internal teams to assess the impact of emerging regulations on business operations, strategy, and governance.
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex agreements, particularly those involving sustainability and ESG considerations (e.g., vendor and supplier contracts).
- Support sustainability-related disclosures and ensure alignment with global ESG reporting frameworks such as GRI, TCFD, and ISSB.
- Serve as a trusted legal advisor to business teams across functions including sales, marketing, R&D, procurement, finance, IT, and HR.
- Provide strategic legal advice on a wide range of issues including compliance, ESG, marketing, product liability, and EHS.
- Communicate legal risks and developments effectively to leadership and legal colleagues.
- Develop and deliver training on environmental and regulatory topics.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful working environment within the legal department.
Candidate Profile:
- European-qualified lawyer with an LLM or equivalent legal qualification.
- At least 8 years of post-qualification experience in environmental law and sustainability matters.
- Deep understanding of sustainability laws and ESG compliance frameworks.
- Experience advising on corporate sustainability strategies.
- Strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Solid project management capabilities and familiarity with Enterprise Lean Six Sigma.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
