Planning Senior Associate

Location: Birmingham

The Team

Our client’s award-winning Planning team has extensive experience supporting commercial and residential developers, investors, retail and leisure operators, social housing organisations, major corporate occupiers, banks, and a variety of public sector bodies. The team has successfully navigated some of the UK’s most complex urban regeneration schemes, as well as mixed-use, residential, retail, and private rented sector (PRS) developments.

With expertise in general planning advice, drafting of infrastructure agreements, and strategic planning support for complex mixed-use projects, this planning team brings deep knowledge and insight to help clients achieve their development goals. Their forward-thinking approach anticipates potential planning policy and legislative changes, providing clients with clarity on interpreting existing frameworks like the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) to ensure projects progress smoothly

The Role

Our client is now seeking an experienced Birmingham-based Senior Associate Planning Solicitor (ideally 4-8 years PQE) to join this ambitious team. In this role, you will work on a variety of planning matters and contribute to the continued national expansion of the Planning team.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Drafting and negotiating Section 106 agreements, highways agreements, and other statutory agreements.
  • Advising on planning law, highways regulations, and associated legal frameworks.
  • Conducting due diligence for property and corporate transactions.
  • Managing contentious planning matters, including Planning Inquiries, hearings, Court challenges, and Judicial Reviews.
  • Supporting large regeneration schemes and complex projects, using your expertise to navigate legal requirements and ensure project success.

About You

As an experienced planning solicitor, you bring a passion for planning law and an enthusiasm for working on impactful projects. Key attributes include:

  • Proven experience in Section 106 and highways agreements, planning inquiries, and statutory requirements.
  • Experience in drafting infrastructure agreements.
  • A strong background in managing large regeneration projects or complex schemes is particularly desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines to achieve strategic goals for clients.
