Senior Construction Lawyer (non-contentious)

This is a great opportunity for an experienced non-contentious construction lawyer to join a leading international practice in Birmingham and enjoy a diverse range of work, spanning regional to international projects and collaborating across practice groups.

The Team

Our client’s transactional Construction & Engineering team works closely with its counterpart disputes colleagues and are renowned experts in large-scale projects and dispute avoidance and management. Leveraging experience and commercial expertise they ensure deals are delivered on time and problems are resolved efficiently and commercially.

The team represent governments, public bodies, major multinational corporations, national companies, and contractors in highly significant and complex matters. As part of one of the largest global teams, the lawyers have the support they need to deliver excellence.

Role and Key Responsibilities

Our client is now seeking a talented and motivated individual to join the team and grow their career over the medium and long term. Key responsibilities will include:

Acting for a wide range of national and international clients, focusing on the Energy and Infrastructure sectors as well as the traditional built environment.
Providing strategic and commercial legal advice on major energy, infrastructure, and development projects.
Handling your own matters while supporting and guiding more junior lawyers within the team.
Taking a proactive lead in business development and contributing to the strategic direction of the team.
Collaborating with colleagues across national and international teams and various practice and product groups to develop growth areas.

Skills and Experience

Our client is keen to speak with non-contentious construction lawyers in Birmingham (or able to relocate) looking to thrive within an exciting, internationally focused team. Ideal candidates will have:

7+ years PQE in non-contentious construction law.
Strong technical skills in high-value construction and engineering transactions and contracts (particularly infrastructure projects), with the ability to understand complex legal arguments and subtle interpretations, and explain the law clearly and concisely.
Experience with standard forms including FIDIC, NEC, iChemE, JCT; Framework Agreements; Interconnectors; collaborative contracts and alliancing; and other bespoke contracts.
Excellent communication skills, the ability to build rapport with clients, and a dedication to providing first-rate client service both internally and externally.
A “can do” attitude, a team ethos, and a willingness to go the extra mile to ensure client needs are met.
Strong organizational skills and a practical approach to following procedures, meeting key dates, and managing a busy workload.
Experience in business development, supervising junior fee earners, and a keen desire to continue taking an active role in these areas.
