IWD2020: Inge Pieters

März 13, 2021

We proud to be supporting International Women’s Day 2020. International Women’s Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. Whilst we all know that gender parity within the workplace has improved over the past decades, we all also know that there is still a long way to go.

We interviewed our very own Inge Pieters, Director.

_______________

What does equality in the workplace look like for you?

Equality to me means acknowledging and embracing diversity. Equality not only means that opportunities should be available to everyone; it means that everyone can have the chance to develop their maximum potential. Equality underscores the fact that although all human beings differ from each other, everyone has access to the same opportunities and human rights.

How do you think parental leave should be approached in 2020?

In my view we should take Finland’s recently announced parental leave-policy as an example. Just now they announced they are going to implement regulations in order to allow all parents access to the same amount of (paid) parental leave. With the purpose of promoting well being and gender equality I think it is absolutely necessary that both mother and father are allowed to spend the same amount of time with their newborn.

What have you or your business implemented to achieve positive changes for an equal workforce?

We acknowledge and respect individual beliefs, practices and backgrounds, and recognise the importance of a diversity of approaches to a problem.

We also consider flexible work scheduling and attendance for individual circumstances. By allowing someone leave or flexibility to meet family needs, religious holidays and observance, or other special circumstances we try to promote an equal workforce.
