Taylor Root is proud to be supporting International Women’s Day 2018. We have interviewed a selection of our female clients asking them how they are pressing forward for women’s gender parity #pressforprogress

Taylor Root interviewed, Kiran Scarr, General Counsel, DMCCPast Progress

If you had to start your career from scratch, knowing what you know now, what would you do differently?

I probably would have taken a few more leaps into the unknown. I spent a lot of my early career feeling that I did not have a mandate to actively pursue what I wanted. It was almost as if being an ambitious female was a guilty secret. Looking back, I shouldn’t have cared so much about what people might think. I should have simply believed in myself and gone forth without fear of retribution.

Present Progress

What is your personal mantra?

Don’t be afraid to stretch beyond your reach.

If you were to be a mentor to someone within your profession, what one piece of advice would you give?

Stop with this constant pursuit of perfection! It’s not a fulfilling destination. Dare to try new things. What’s the worst thing that could happen? Misadventures are there to learn from; they enrich you and your personality.

Future Progress

What would you say the top 3 skills are needed in order to be successful in your industry?

First, STRATEGIC THINKING – having vision to see beyond what is in front of you. Second, VERSATILITY – being agile enough to respond to different people in different situations. And finally, COURAGE – having the strength to do things that are aligned with your values.
