Senior Counsel

Job title:

Senior Counsel

Level/Salary:

£Six Figure Package

Location(s):

Aldwych

Job details:

The AADB, one of the operating bodies of the Financial Reporting Council, is the independent investigative and disciplinary body for the accountancy and actuarial professions in the UK. The AADB deals with cases which raise or appear to raise important issues affecting the public interest in the UK and which need to be investigated to determine whether or not there has been any misconduct by an accountant or accountancy firm, or by an actuary.

The need has now arisen to recruit a senior solicitor or barrister who will work closely alongside the organisation’s Executive Counsel. The candidate will have significant experience of financial crime, regulatory or disciplinary investigations and proceedings. Ideally, the individual will have significant prosecution experience.

The role will be both varied and challenging and the candidate will be responsible for assessing and monitoring potential cases for the AADB as well as conducting and managing complex investigations and disciplinary complaints. This will often involve working with a small team including forensic accountants and other lawyers and you will be required to conduct formal interviews as well as preparing cases for resentation at public tribunal hearings. In addition, the individual will attend public hearings and may be expected to perform as an advocate in certain cases.

This is a unique and senior role and one that is highly visible within the AADB and FRC generally. As such, the candidate will have the gravitas and credibility necessary to liaise with senior members of a range of other UK and international regulators as well as senior members of the AABD FRC. Candidates will have a minimum of five years post qualification experience. The ability to work autonomously and to run your own caseload whilst at the same time working well as part of a small team is essential.

The role will be based in the FRC’s offices in Aldwych but some travel in the UK and abroad may be required.

This assignment is being handled by our exclusively retained consultants. All third party and direct applications will be forwarded to Taylor Root for consideration.Further information about the FRC and AADB can be found at www.frc.org.uk
Closing date: 30th April 2008
