This is an opportunity to join the Security Service’s professional and dedicated legal team in a role specialising in employment matters. It offers the chance to make a real difference, with immediate responsibility and a varied and interesting workload.

You will work closely with the Service’s HR team on a wide range of HR issues, including recruitment, discipline and performance management and associated casework. You will be expected to oversee the conduct of employment litigation for the Service, in such a way as to ensure the protection of sensitive information. You will also advise the Service on matters concerning security clearance of employees and contractors, represent its interests in relation to new employment-related legislation and design and conduct in-house training on equality, diversity and management issues.

The role involves liaising effectively at all levels with internal clients and representatives of other organisations on employment and security clearance matters.

Applicants should be a British Citizen and a Solicitor or Barrister with at least 3 years’ post-qualification experience in employment law. They should be capable of making decisions quickly and decisively; be self-starters, capable of handling real and immediate responsibility; and be persuasive, tactful and diplomatic. First class written and verbal communication skills are essential.
