Job title:

Legal Counsel

Level/Salary:

Excellent

Location(s):

Job details:

ExxonMobil is a worldwide leader in the petroleum and petrochemicals business and has a presence in, or does business in, nearly 200 countries. Exxon Mobil Corporation is the parent company of the Esso,  Mobil and ExxonMobil companies that operate in the United Kingdom. The ExxonMobil UK law department is now looking to recruit an additional legal counsel to join the team.

The law department is responsible for supporting the upstream, downstream and chemical businesses in the UK and Ireland as well as upstream business activities in Europe, the Caspian, Russia and Libya.  You could be assigned to work on such varied matters as exploration, production, gas marketing, the manufacture and marketing of fuels and lubricants, international sales or corporate transactions. Initially you will focus on the UK, but will also have the opportunity to work on international matters affecting the business.

You will have direct responsibility for your allocated client groups, although you will also have the full support and guidance of senior lawyers in the team.  Whilst experience within the energy sector is not a prerequisite, it would be an advantage.  You will be expected to have undertaken a challenging and international workload during your career to date and should be used to drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex agreements and transactions. In addition, you will be capable of handling a broad legal portfolio and effectively supervising outside counsel.

The successful candidate will have strong legal skills and will demonstrate sound analysis and judgement.  You will be quick to learn and will show interest in, and understanding of, your clients' businesses. You will be a confident, clear and concise communicator and will be capable of working effectively both individually and as part of a team. Candidates will also be expected to exercise initiative and develop leadership skills, as well as being able to demonstrate practical business acumen coupled with the personality, drive and intellect necessary to succeed in this challenging role.

It will not be your skill set alone which will determine your suitability. Candidates working within relevant areas such as corporate, energy, projects and infrastructure (particularly with a strong transactional or commercial focus) are encouraged to apply.

This is an exceptional opportunity for someone from private practice, the Bar or an in-house position to join a global market-leader where you will have an unrivalled career path.
