Retail - Sole Counsel - 5+ years’ PQE

As the company continues to grow asos now seeks its first in-house counsel who will work with and report to the company’s Finance Director. You will be responsible for all legal and commercial advice to central management and as such will undertake a varied and challenging workload. As the sole in-house lawyer you will be expected to draft, review and negotiate a range of commercial agreements and arrangements including supplier agreements, supplier T&Cs and some outsourcing agreements. Additionally, you will be expected to handle the company’s Intellectual Property work, including Data Protection and Trademarks, where you will be responsible for the ongoing training and support of the company’s buying team as well as protecting asos’s IP rights and handling any contentious issues. Ideally you will also be able to manage ad hoc issues such as employment and property related matters along with the company secretarial work although the individual will still be expected to instruct and supervise external counsel.

The gravitas and maturity necessary to work with senior commercial managers is essential and the ability to translate complex legal issues to a commercial audience will be expected. You will work hand-in-hand with sales and management teams so must have a can-do approach to your work as well as the ability to provide solutions to problems. Knowledge of the retail sector is a distinct advantage. This is an excellent role to further your career in a unique and demanding role in a fast-paced environment.
