Yorkshire enjoys an excellent balance of city living combined with unspoilt countryside and is culturally vibrant as a region. With four major legal centres, Leeds in West Yorkshire, Sheffield in South Yorkshire, York and Hull in North and East Yorkshire respectively, this is not an area to be overlooked.
Leeds is an exciting city that has it all: the chance to enjoy superb nightlife and restaurants and unrivalled shopping facilities (including the first Harvey Nichols outside of London), combined with some of the most breath-taking scenery in Britain. Numerous galleries, museums, exhibitions and theatre programmes, including the West Yorkshire Playhouse, the Royal Armouries and the Royal Northern Ballet, are attracting increasing numbers of relocators from London who appreciate the quality of work and lifestyle on offer.
The city benefits from excellent transport links. The M1 and A1 provide excellent connections to the South, the main train station provides links to major centres and London can be reached in a little over
two hours. Leeds-Bradford International Airport is situated just eleven miles outside of the city, providing direct flights to London Heathrow, London City Airport and numerous international destinations. Other transport links include a network of bus routes serving Leeds and areas commutable from Leeds, including connections to the beautiful surrounding countryside.
Sheffield is a modernised former industrial city, founded on the iron and steel trades which came into the fore during the industrial revolution. The continual drive toward regeneration and the recent investment has certainly paid off, with the city undergoing a transformation set to rival that of Leeds. Sheffield is closer to nature than its traditional steel heritage would suggest. With a third of the city lying within the boundary of the Peak District National Park, there are exceptional opportunities for outdoor pursuits.
The focal point of East Yorkshire, the maritime city of Hull has a long deep-fishing tradition and is now a leading port and gateway to Europe. Modern Hull is a city of contrasts, from the cobbled streets of the historic Old Town, with its Museums’ quarter and thriving creative industries, to the contemporary Princes Quay Shopping Centre above the waters of a former dock. The centre of Hull is in the process of being redeveloped. Hull’s nightlife includes an array of clubs and bars, which range from well established chains to unique venues. Half a billion pounds-worth of retail investment will soon establish Hull as a major shopping and leisure destination, set around a beautiful city park and stunning waterfront.
York is a beautiful, thriving modern city with a history stretching back at least 2,000 years, well known and loved for its historic city walls and centuries-old buildings, including the stunning York Minster. From narrow streets with chic cafés and specialist shops, trips on its tree-lined river, and a superb choice of museums and galleries, York has always been of particular attraction to those seeking a picturesque setting with a bustling city centre.
The area boasts Three National Parks: The Yorkshire Dales, the Peak District further south in the region and the North York Moors protect more than 1000 square miles of matchless walking country and frame ruined abbeys, castles, great houses and gardens.
