Whether you are looking for a vibrant city with a buzzing nightlife, the unspoilt Northumberland coast or the rolling moors of the Cheviot Hills, the North East has it all.
At the heart of the North East is the city of Newcastle - formerly a leading city in the industrial revolution, it fell into decline over the early part of the 20th century before emerging as a commercial and cultural capital during the 1990s. The city has undergone significant regeneration along the quayside, which was home to the shipbuilding industry but now boasts a range of bars, restaurants and boutique hotels. Newcastle has a year-round programme of musical and theatrical events at a number of venues around the city. In addition there are a large number of museums and galleries, the newest being the Baltic Centre which is the UK’s biggest gallery for contemporary art outside London.
Shopping in the area rivals the best in 
the country - on Northumberland Street in the city centre you will find a range of high street names and the flagship Fenwick store that dominates the street. On the outskirts of the town the Metro Centre is one of the largest undercover shopping and leisure centres in Europe.
High speed rail links from Newcastle make other significant commercial centres accessible. London is only three hours away by train and there are regular daily flights to all of the major airports. In addition flights from Newcastle International Airport currently fly to more than 90 major destinations in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and North America.
The North East stirs passions and pride often unmatched in other areas of the country – for evidence, you need to look no further than the support given to the three premiership football teams, the top flight rugby team and Durham County Cricket Club.
Away from the city you can find the perfect work-life balance by escaping to the beautiful unspoilt Northumberland Coast or the Northumberland National Park, both less than one hour’s drive away.
