The East Midlands market is often unjustifiably overshadowed by its larger neighbour to the west but some would argue, offers a more enticing combination of high calibre law firms, countryside, market towns and cosmopolitan cities. The region has long outgrown its erstwhile reliance on a strong manufacturing base. So as well as representing high profile local businesses such as Boots, Capital One and Experian, the major commercial firms enjoy client portfolios from a variety of sectors, with a national and occasionally an international dimension.
More than a third of the region’s residents live in rural areas - almost twice the national average - and from the flat agricultural plains of southern 
Lincolnshire to the upland vistas of the Derbyshire Pennines, the East Midlands’ diverse scenery, and in particular the Peak District, represents a haven for lovers of the great outdoors.
More than 500 overseas companies occupy Milton Keynes, attracted by its proximity and excellent road and rail links to London, Oxford, Birmingham and Cambridge. Milton Keynes offers a landscaped environment, with more than 4,000 acres of parkland, one of the largest undercover shopping centres in Europe and its own theatre district. Well established as a thriving business centre, Milton Keynes has proved attractive to several big name law firms who enjoy strong relationships with many of the local businesses, as well as acting for other national and international clients. Remuneration at the biggest practices is on a par with the large non-City London law firms.
