Tokyo City Guide

International law firms have had a presence here since the 1980s and are mainly staffed with lawyers from the UK, Australia, New Zealand and the US. More recently firms have been allowed to practice Japanese law and the majority of firms have hired a small number of local lawyers so they can offer clients a ‘one-stop shop’.
The size of the international offices here varies, but in general the main UK practices will have between 20-40 lawyers whereas many of the US practices tend to be smaller with between 5-15 lawyers.
