Our Technology & Media team draws on the firm’s long-established roots in the software, internet, telecommunications, sports and media industries to provide wide-ranging legal advice and solutions in this dynamic sector. Our technology and media lawyers in London advise on copyright, patents, trademarks, and other proprietary information issues, and are experienced in structuring major technology and media transactions. They are active in a wide range of European regulatory issues and also advise clients and advocate their positions on legislative and regulatory matters before the European Parliament, the European Commission and the national legislatures and ministries. In addition, our lawyers advise clients on IP enforcement and multi-jurisdictional data protection issues. Our Technology & Media group was recognised as the “US IP Firm in Europe for EU and Regulatory work” by Managing Intellectual Property Global Awards 2008.
We are now looking to strengthen further our Technology & Media team in London. We therefore invite applications from exceptional IP and technology and media lawyers gained at a leading practice. Ideal candidates will have strong IP skills covering patents, trademarks and copyright and have experience of both contentious and non-contentious work. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join a market leading technology and media practice and work with some of the world’s leading software, telecommunications, sports, media and branded goods companies.
Private Equity Funds
Our London corporate group includes lawyers who devote a substantial portion of their time advising on the establishment of private equity and other investment funds, primary investments in funds and transactions (both in funds and in direct investments) involving private equity funds. We also regularly advise on co-investments, including in connection with public takeovers and acquisitions. In the past 18 months, the London office advised clients on primary investments totalling in excess of $2 billion in over 50 private equity funds and on a large number of secondary transactions with an aggregate value in excess of $1 billion. Our London funds practice is international in scope and works closely with our strong practice in the US.
4+ PQE Private Equity Funds/Corporate Lawyer
We are looking to recruit a corporate lawyer with in excess of 4 years post-qualification experience gained at an international law firm in London with a recognised private equity funds practice. The successful candidate is likely to have at least 2 to 3 years' experience of private equity work in the funds field, particularly in relation to secondary transactions, co-investment transactions and/or primary or secondary syndications (most likely in the context of take-private transactions). The candidate will have a keen interest in private equity funds transactional matters and will wish to combine working in this field with building up experience also in the broader corporate field, particularly private company M&A, buy-outs and joint venture transactions. The ideal candidate is likely to have worked with private equity houses in relation to fund formations, take-private transactions or buy-outs and to have led or have had a significant role in secondary, co-investment or syndication transactions, in addition to having had a wide-ranging experience of corporate M&A generally. It is anticipated that the candidate’s time will, broadly, be split equally between funds transactional work and broader corporate work.
Dispute Resolution
Lawyers in our dispute resolution practice enjoy a broad practice. They are experienced in disputes involving complex corporate transactions and commercial contracts, product liability defence work, claims on behalf of corporate policyholders for wrongful denials of insurance coverage, and major internal investigations and compliance work involving multinational corporations. We represent clients before the English Courts and other tribunals as well as act as co-ordinating counsel in multi-jurisdictional litigation. In addition, our London dispute resolution team handles international arbitrations in London and elsewhere, as well as alternative dispute resolution procedures.
2+ PQE Dispute Resolution Lawyer
We are looking to recruit a dispute resolution solicitor with in excess of 2 years post-qualification experience to focus on general dispute resolution matters. The practice focuses on general litigation and international arbitration, life science, investigative/FCPA, and insurance representing policyholders against the market. The successful candidate must be versatile and prepared to practice in all areas if the need arises. The ideal candidate will have excellent written communication skills and will be someone who is intellectually bright, confident and personable. We are looking for a candidate from a top law firm who is attracted to working in a smaller team environment.
Corporate
Lawyers within Covington’s London corporate practice work on a broad variety of matters, including mergers and acquisitions, capital markets transactions, private equity and venture capital investments, finance, joint ventures and strategic alliances. In addition, our corporate group includes lawyers who focus on private equity fund transactions and formations, tax, financial services regulation, and employment matters. 5+ PQE Corporate Lawyer - M&A focus
The successful candidate will have at least 5 years post qualification experience within a leading corporate practice and will have experience managing large and complex cross border M&A and other corporate transactions. Ideally you will have additional experience in a range of corporate matters and be able to assume the lead associate’s role on both public and private M&A transactions, LBOs and private equity transactions, capital markets matters such as AIM and LSE main market listings, joint ventures, and more general corporate assignments.
5+ PQE Corporate Lawyer - Equity Capital Markets focus
The successful candidate will have at least 5 years post qualification experience within a leading corporate practice and will have experience in managing equity capital markets transactions, in particular AIM and LSE main market listings, secondary offerings, private placements, and similar UK corporate finance work. You will also have additional experience in a range of corporate assignments and be able to assume the lead associate’s role on a broad range of capital markets matters, public and private M&A transactions, and more general corporate advisory assignments.
3+ PQE Corporate Lawyers (two positions)
The successful candidate will have broad experience within the corporate arena but could have a particular focus on M&A and/or equity capital markets (AIM and LSE main market listings, secondary offerings, private placements, and similar UK securities work). Ideally you will have additional experience in a range of corporate assignments and be able to work on a wide range of corporate matters including M&A, equity capital markets, private equity and venture capital, joint ventures and strategic alliances, finance, and general corporate advisory matters.
NQ+ Corporate Lawyer
The successful candidate will have received a top quality, meaningful training at a leading firm and had exposure to a broad range of corporate work. You will be committed to working as a corporate lawyer on a variety of corporate assignments, including M&A, equity capital markets, private equity and venture capital, joint ventures and strategic alliances, finance, and general corporate advisory matters.
Life Sciences
Covington's award-winning Life Sciences practice is among the leading practices in the world dealing with regulatory, dispute resolution and corporate challenges affecting the life sciences industry. Lawyers in our London Life Sciences team advise companies and trade associations, including many of the major multinational pharmaceutical manufacturers, biotechnology companies and producers of medical devices, cosmetics, foods, food packaging, specialty chemicals and consumer products.
